EM4102 module description

Low-cost proximity RFID reader module supporting EM Marin EM4001 / EM4102 and compatible Manchester read-only transponders/tags (for example: Sokymat UNIQUE tag).

The module is completely housed within a 24-pin DIP package(pin compatible with other modules) and only requires a 5v supply and a 700 micro-Henry antenna coil to be a fully featured reader and tag acceptance system.

The RWD module has outstanding RF drive capability and has a read/write range to ISO card size tags of up to 20cm whilst maintaining reliable communication and high resilience to EMC corruption. This has been achieved through the RWD continuously self-tuning to allow for inductive changes in the RF field and extensive software/hardware filtering.

The RWD module has a TTL level RS232 interface that allows a host system to send and receive easy-to-use optimised commands/data (for example: ASCII “R” command to read tag serial number).

The RWD also has internal EEPROM memory for holding system parameters and lists of authorised serial numbers and supports direct LED drives to give visual indication of acceptance. The RWD-EM4102 can also be configured to automatically output the card serial number without any host intervention. Automatic data output can be serial or Wiegand protocol. A programmable "BEEP" output is provided to control an audible sounder or other external loads.

The RWD Reader module firmware also makes extensive use of power-down and Sleep modes to achieve very low AVERAGE current consumption of down to 100uA (micro Amps), even when fully active. This makes the ibt reader designs ideal for battery powered applications.

Different versions are available which use the spare I/O pins to output data in different formats such as CLOCK/DATA (Magnetic swipe protocol) and other formats (in addition to standard TTL RS232 interface).
